We're big fans of the Safe Sippy (and its progeny, the Safe Sippy 2). So we were muy excited to get our hands on Kid-Basix's brand new innovation, the stainless steel Safe Starter baby bottle.
Free of BPA (bisphenol-A), phthalates and DEHA (another nasty plasticizer akin to phthalates), The Safe Starter is made from non-leaching, food-grade stainless steel and encased in an easy-grip, insulating, temperature neutral, non-toxic silicone sleeve (which may be left on during heating).
Dishwasher safe and available in 3 candy-licious colors, the 5 ounce Safe Starter (also available in a 9 oz. version) includes a fully vented non-toxic Stage 1 (slow flow) silicone nipple that's reinforced to prevent collapsing (just what you'd expect when nationally recognized lactation specialists were on the job). For good measure, the Safe Starter also includes a storage disc (so you can store milk or formula in the bottle) and a clear travel cap with measuring marks (in ounces and milliliters) for on-the-go convenience.
One thing to note about the Safe Starter: The downside to that stainless steel goodness is that, well, stainless steel ain't see-through. So it's fair to wonder how you'll be able to precisely measure your baby's bottle if precision is your kind of thing. The answer is, well, not so precisely. The silicone sleeve does include measuring marks (again, in ounces and milliliters), but you'll have to eyeball the levels since the bottle isn't transparent, and of course you won't be able to see exactly how much of the bottle your baby has taken without opening the top. Not an ideal solution, we agree, but one we're willing to live with given the Safe Starter's other super attributes. If that's a tradeoff likely to annoy you, check out our selection of Lifefactory glass bottles or non-toxic Green to Grow plastic bottles. |
